Chair(s) & Membership
The Standing Committee on Finance and Planning consists of a Chair, who is a Governing Council member, plus a minimum of three (3) members chosen by Governing Council after receiving advice from its Nominating and Governance Committee. The President is an ex-officio member.
Meetings
Meetings will be held at least 3 times annually at the call of the Chair, or by request of the President.
Quorum
A majority of its members.

Mandate
The Standing Committee is mandated by the Governing Council to provide direction and oversight of CIHR's financial, budgeting and strategic planning activities.
Roles & Responsibilites
The roles and responsibilities of the committee are as follows:
- ensure that CIHR has an effective planning process in place that provides appropriate alignment of financial resources with strategic directions
- provide direction and oversight to the planning process to ensure that annual and multi-year Corporate plans received from the Research and Knowledge Translation Committee, the Institutes, and CIHR Management, reflect the strategic directions established by the Governing Council
- recommend to the Governing Council, CIHR's annual budget
- assess CIHR's financial requirements on a continuous basis and recommend to the Governing Council, strategies and measures to increase CIHR's overall level of resources
- monitor annual financial results of operations and report to the Governing Council on any matters of significance
- respond to all matters related to the Committee's mandate as may be referred to it by the Governing Council, and to act according to the nature of the referral
- initiate any reviews, studies, initiatives etc. necessary to carry out the mandate of the Committee
- promote transparency and accountability in all financial and planning activities of CIHR
Reporting
The Standing Committee on Finance & Planning will normally report at each meeting of the Governing Council on all of its proceedings since the last meeting of the Governing Council.
Evaluation
On an annual basis, a review of terms of reference and re-affirmation of membership.
