1. Funding Opportunities
1.1 Fellowship: Fall 2013 Priority Announcement (Lung Cancer)
Application deadline: November 15, 2013
Lung Cancer Canada in partnership with CIHR-ICR will provide funding for applications that are relevant to lung cancer research in the following areas: Translational Research; Clinical Research; and Knowledge Translation Activities. The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $165,000. The maximum amount awarded for a single award is $55,000 per annum for up to 3 years.
1.2 Dissemination Events: Fall 2013 Competition
Application deadline: October 15, 2013
The CIHR Science, Knowledge Translation and Ethics Branch will provide support to dissemination events/activities that focus on the communication of health research evidence to the appropriate researcher and/or knowledge user audience(s), tailoring the message and medium as appropriate. The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $175,000. The maximum amount per grant is $25,000 for up to one year.

CIHR-ICR will provide funding for applications that address the following research priority areas that are consistent with its mandate: lifestyle, environment, and cancer prevention; diagnosis and guided therapy: towards personalized medicine; cancer initiation and intervention; and cancer survivorship. The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $25,000. The maximum amount awarded for a single grant is $25,000 per annum for up to one year.
1.4 Planning Grants: Fall 2013 Competition
Application Deadline: October 15, 2013
The CIHR Science, Knowledge Translation and Ethics Branch will provide support to individuals or groups for planning activities that will contribute to the advancement of research consistent with the mandate of CIHR. The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $175,000. The maximum amount per grant is $25,000 for up to one year.
2. New PI Meeting and Career Development Opportunities
2.1 The New Principal Investigators Meeting
This meeting is taking place on November 3-6, 2013 in Toronto as part of the Careers in Cancer Research Development Program (CCRDP) of the Canadian Cancer Research Conference. The New PI Meeting is intended for new faculty and senior post-docs at Canadian Universities, including new scientists adn clinician scientists from the cancer research community. CIHR-ICR and CCSRI are proud to support up to 100 participants to attend this PI meeting. Abstracts are still being accepted; please contact the abstracts secretariat to submit your copy.
2.2 Mentorship Opportunities: CCRDP Café
As part of the CCRDP, senior researchers have generously offered their time to act as Café mentors to new principal investigators and senior post-doctoral fellows. Possible topics for discussion during these mentorship opportunities include amongst others grant writing, potential next-placement opportunities, and specific career discussions.
