Funding Opportunities Promoting Institute of Aging Priority Areas

Planning Grants – Fall 2013 Priority Announcements

The Planning Grants - Aging opportunity will provide funding for applications that address research priority areas that are consistent with the mandate of the Institute, that will stimulate planning activities and/or partnership development, and exchange. The maximum amount awarded for a single Planning Grant is $25,000 for eligible non-recurring meetings and events, for up to one year. The application deadline is October 15th, 2013.

CIHR-IA Prizes of Excellence in Research on Aging

The IA Prizes of Excellence in Research on Aging encourage and honour our brightest rising stars. They consist of a supplement to the research allowance, given in year one of the recipient’s award. The awardees of the Prizes are the top IA-relevant candidates for each of the 3 trainee awards and are valued at the following amounts: $2,500 (Anne Martin-Matthews Doctoral Research Prize of Excellence in Research on Aging), $5,000 (Fellowship Prize of Excellence in Research on Aging) and $10,000 (New Investigator Prize of Excellence in Research on Aging).

Partnerships for Health Systems Improvement

Partnerships for Health System Improvement (PHSI) aims to strengthen Canada's healthcare system through collaborative, applied and policy-relevant research. PHSI is Canada's premier health services and policy research competition — and with its strong emphasis on partnerships and knowledge translation it is also a major resource for managers and policy makers who want relevant research to inform their decision-making. PHSI funds teams of decision makers and researchers to conduct applied health services and policy research. PHSI projects can last up to three years and receive up to a maximum of $400,000 from CIHR over the life of the project. Additional funding from external partners is required. $1.2 M is available to fund applications relevant to the Institute of Aging. The application deadline is November 1st, 2013.

Knowledge Synthesis: Fall 2013 Competition

The purpose of this funding opportunity is to support teams of researchers and knowledge users to produce knowledge syntheses and scoping reviews that will contribute to the use of synthesized evidence in decision-making and practice. The maximum amount for a knowledge synthesis is $100,000 for up to one year and the maximum amount for a scoping review is $50,000 for up to one year. The application deadline is October 1st, 2013.

Operating Grant: Knowledge to Action (2013-2014)

The intent of this funding opportunity is to accelerate the translation of knowledge by linking researchers and knowledge users to move knowledge into action, and in so doing, increase the understanding of knowledge application through the process. The maximum amount per grant is $200,000 for over a period of up to two years. The application deadline is December 2nd, 2013.

Technology Evaluation in the Elderly Network (TVN Interdisciplinary Fellowship Program)

TVN is introducing a two-year Interdisciplinary Fellowship Program which goes beyond traditional academic and clinical training opportunities within disciplines, offering enriched learning based on the concept of collaborative interdisciplinary learning and experience. The TVN Interdisciplinary Fellowship Program facilitates collaboration with fellows in other disciplines, world-class supervisors and interdisciplinary mentors, and most importantly, active involvement with patients, families and their support system. Up to eight (8) fellowships will be funded with a stipend of $50,000 per year for two years. Applications are due Friday, August 9, 2013.
