Funding Opportunities Aligned with CIHR Signature Initiatives
Catalyst Grant - Secondary Analysis of Neuroimaging Databases
The goal of this funding opportunity is to promote the use of ADNI data, with possible linkages to other world-class neuroimaging databases, in order to maximize the benefits from imaging data to contribute to the early detection of Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias, and to contribute to our understanding of the pathological, etiological and functional linkages between Alzheimer’s Disease and other neurodegenerative diseases having an impact on cognition. The maximum amount per grant is $50,000 per year for up to 2 years. The registration deadline is August 30th, 2013.
Funding Opportunities Promoting Institute of Aging Priority Areas
Operating Grant - Priority Announcement
Priority Announcements on CIHR Operating Grant competitions offer additional sources of funding for highly rated applications that are relevant to specific CIHR research priority areas or mandates. IA will fund applications that are determined to be relevant to the Institute of Aging Strategic research priorities. The maximum amount awarded for a single grant is up to $100,000 per annum for up to one year. The registration deadline is August 15th, 2013.
Prize: Voluntary Sector Outreach
The Voluntary Sector Outreach Prize aims to develop communications-related partnerships with Canadian voluntary sector organizations. Proposals may be targeted to a specific audience who would benefit from being better informed about the impacts of health-related research (e.g., improving communications with front-line physicians, policy-makers), or the scope could be more general for the greater public (e.g., proposing an event associated with a national or international initiative dedicated to increasing awareness). The CIHR-IA will award up to four prizes of up to $10,000 each for successful aging-relevant proposals under this initiative. The application deadline is September 27th, 2013.
CIHR-IA Prizes of Excellence in Research on Aging
The IA Prizes of Excellence in Research on Aging encourage and honour our brightest rising stars. They consist of a supplement to the research allowance, given in year one of the recipient’s award. The awardees of the Prizes are the top IA-relevant candidates for each of the 3 trainee awards and are valued at the following amounts: $2,500 (Anne Martin-Matthews Doctoral Research Prize of Excellence in Research on Aging), $5,000 (Fellowship Prize of Excellence in Research on Aging-to be posted in July) and $10,000 (New Investigator Prize of Excellence in Research on Aging-to be posted in July).
Age+ Prize
The IA Age+ Prize recognizes excellence in research on aging carried out by emerging Canadian scholars and the resulting publications. Awards are for graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and residents from all disciplines, conducting research in aging. The award is valued at $1,000. The next application deadline is October 1st, 2013.

The aim of the ADPS Longevity research award is to support the development of a high quality scientific research:
- To better understand the mechanisms of aging
- To find innovative and effective solutions to delay aging
