Focus

Canada and Australia’s most vulnerable citizens have poor health literacy or are challenged with disproportionately poor access to quality CBPHC although both nations’ champion principles of health equity. Several jurisdictions have implemented changes that aim to enhance the accessibility to, and performance of CBPHC, however, the benefits of these changes are limited as they often do not achieve their objectives in all population groups. Our Innovative Models Promoting Access and Coverage Team (IMPACT) initiative will provide an opportunity to build upon partnerships, programs and research to co-create models of care that enhance access for vulnerable populations. Our research program will begin with a review of innovative international system-level approaches to optimise population access to CBPHC. This analysis will aid in the production of a set of innovations that can be tailored, implemented and robustly evaluated for effectiveness and feasibility. Lessons from this evaluation will inform governments and communities about the conditions necessary to ensure that innovations can be adapted and up-scaled to improve access to CBPHC.
