CBPHC Outcomes and impacts

The Community-Based Primary Health Care (CBPHC) Signature Initiative is expected to have a substantial impact on the advancement of knowledge, capacity for CBPHC research, and, most importantly, on the health of the population and on social and economic benefits for Canada:

Social and economic benefits

Canadians be involved in innovative models of care and be active participants; improvement of health-related quality of life for participating Canadians; increase in international consulting related to Canada's health care system.

Health impact

Improve timely access, reduce avoidable ER visits and hospitalizations, and/or improve patient/family satisfaction and confidence in self-management; reduction in the prevalence of risk factors for chronic conditions, incidence of chronic problems and reduction in disparities in adverse outcomes for vulnerable groups.

Capacity development

Double the number of CBPHC trainees and the number of new investigators receiving career awards; establish and recruit at least four endowed Chairs and recruit two or more imbedded researchers within at least 50% of the provincial and territorial ministries.

Advancing knowledge

Double the number of publications per year in CBPHC by Canadian researchers, including in high impact journals and the number of publications with international partners; increase the proportion of studies with international partners; double the number of citations to Canadian CBPHC research and increase in international proportion of CBPHC literature contributed by Canadian researchers.
