Dr. Paul Lasko serves as judge at 2013 Sanofi BioGENEius Challenge Canada

2013-04

On April 9, Dr. Paul Lasko, Scientific Director of CIHR Institute of Genetics, served as one of eight judges at the national 2013 Sanofi BioGENEius Challenge Canada (SBCC) in Ottawa. The annual competition encourages high school and CEGEP students to pursue careers in biotechnology. Eleven brilliant students from nine Canadian regions advanced to the national competition in pursuit of the top prize at the National Research Council headquarters. SBCC is sponsored in part by CIHR and has inspired counterpart competitions in the United States and Australia.

Dr. Paul Lasko assesses the presentation of Saruul Uuganbayar, 17, a student from Saskatoon's Centennial Collegiate at the 2013 Sanofi BioGENEius Challenge Canada (SBCC). Ms. Uuganbayar proposed that a molecular therapy for mutated cells could possibly cure cancer.

Dr. Lasko congratulates Arjun Nair, 16, for receiving first prize at SBCC. Mr. Nair, a Grade 11 student from Webber Academy in Calgary, was recognized for his "master's/PhD"-level project regarding the way gold nanoparticles could potentially kill cancer cells.
