1. Funding Opportunities
1.1 Travel Awards - Institute Community Support (Fall 2012 Competition)
Deadline: Sept. 21, 2012
ICR will provide funding for applications to travel to all annual, or other regular interval, meetings including international conferences that are determined to be relevant to its mandate. The amount for a single award is between $500 and $1,000. ICR’s budget for this competition is $19,000.
1.2 CIHR/CMAJ Top Achievements in Health Research Awards: Call for applications
Deadline: Sept. 28, 2012
CIHR is currently accepting applications to the CIHR/Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ) Top Achievements in Health Research Awards competition. All of the necessary instructions for preparing an application can be found on the CIHR website. 1.3 Dissemination Events: Fall 2012 Priority Announcement (Cancer Research)
Deadline: Oct. 15, 2012
ICR will provide funding for applications that address the following research priority areas: Lifestyle, environment, and cancer prevention; Diagnosis and guided therapy: towards personalized medicine; Cancer initiation and intervention; Cancer survivorship. The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $25,000. The maximum amount awarded for a single grant is $25,000 per annum for up to one year.
1.4 Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario
Seed Funding Grants 2013
Deadline: Oct. 12, 2012
Since 2006, POGO has offered Seed Funding Grants of up to $15,000 to facilitate or support feasibility studies, self-contained studies, or the development of grant applications. Applications for this program will be available on September 10, 2012 on the POGO’s website under the Research tab.
Research Fellowship Program 2013
Deadline: Oct. 26, 2012
Fellowships are awarded to applicants working toward a PhD, pursuing a post doctoral degree, or to licensed clinicians and healthcare practitioners of any discipline working in the field of pediatric oncology. Applications for this program will be available on September 10, 2012 on the POGO’s website under the Research tab.
1.5 Team Grant: Health Challenges in Chronic Inflammation Initiative
Deadline: Nov. 15, 2012
The overall objective of this program is to support health research through the discovery and validation of common biomarkers, therapeutic targets, and universal inflammatory mechanisms across chronic diseases, with the ultimate goal to prevent, monitor and /or treat chronic disease by reducing inflammation.

The Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) Incoming Fellowships in Biomedicine (INCOMED) postdoctoral program

This programme aims to attract highly talented scientists seeking advanced research training and career development in all areas of biomedicine and clinical medicine at the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) in Barcelona.
3. Meetings of interest to the cancer community

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation promotes academic cooperation between excellent scientists and scholars from abroad and from Germany. This Colloquium will celebrate the German-Canadian partnership in research and will explore current trends in the making and funding of excellent research in all fields of research in both countries. Canadian Partnership Against Cancer Advisory Committee Renewal
