Funding Opportunities Aligned with CIHR Roadmap Signature Initiatives
Catalyst Grant - Secondary Analysis of Neuroimaging Databases
The goal of this funding opportunity is to promote the use of ADNI data, with possible linkages to other world-class neuroimaging databases, in order to maximize the benefits from imaging data to contribute to the early detection of Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias, and to contribute to our understanding of the pathological, etiological and functional linkages between Alzheimer's Disease and other neurodegenerative diseases having an impact on cognition. The maximum amount per grant is $50,000 per year for up to 2 years. The registration deadline is August 31st, 2012.

Operating Grant - Priority Announcement
Priority Announcements on CIHR Operating Grant competitions offer additional sources of funding for highly rated applications that are relevant to specific CIHR research priority areas or mandates. IA will fund applications that are determined to be relevant to the Institute of Aging Research Priority Themes. The maximum amount awarded for a single grant is up to $100,000 per annum for up to one year. The registration deadline is August 15th, 2012.
Prize: Voluntary Sector Outreach (to be posted in mid-July)
The Voluntary Sector Outreach Prize aims to develop communications-related partnerships with Canadian voluntary sector organizations. Proposals may be targeted to a specific audience who would benefit from being better informed about the impacts of health-related research (e.g., improving communications with front-line physicians, policy-makers etc), or the scope could be more general for the greater public (e.g., proposing an event associated with a national or international initiative dedicated to increasing awareness). The CIHR-IA will award up to four prizes of up to $10,000 each for successful aging-relevant proposals under this initiative. The application deadline is September 28th, 2012.
Aging, Veterans and Dementia Fellowship
This Fellowship will support an application determined to be relevant to prevention, dementia and other disorders, treatment and interventions, or health services, care delivery and environment. The award must be held at the Veterans Affairs Canada - Ste. Anne's Hospital site in Montréal, and the application must be aligned with the priorities of both the CIHR Institute of Aging and Ste. Anne's Hospital. The application deadline is October 1st, 2012.
Physiotherapy in Mobility and Aging Doctoral Research Award
This Doctoral research award will support physiotherapy related research that addresses knowledge or knowledge to action gaps associated with mobility of older Canadians. Research can be in the field of physiotherapy; and in fields that are related to physiotherapy.The application deadline is October 15th, 2012.
Nursing Intervention Research for Older Adults Doctoral Research Award
This Doctoral research award will support Intervention research focused on improving care and quality of life for older persons and/or their caregivers. Applications with a focus on the spectrum of care for older persons with complex needs involving dementia are encouraged. The application deadline is October 15th, 2012.
CIHR-IA Prizes of Excellence in Research on Aging
The IA Prizes of Excellence in Research on Aging encourage and honour our brightest rising stars. They consist of a supplement to the research allowance, given in year one of the recipient's award. The awardees of the Prizes are the top IA-relevant candidates for each of the 3 trainee awards and are valued at the following amounts: $2,500 (Anne Martin-Matthews Doctoral Research Prize of Excellence in Research on Aging), $5,000 (Fellowship Prize of Excellence in Research on Aging) and $10,000 (New Investigator Prize of Excellence in Research on Aging).
Journalism Awards
The CIHR Journalism Awards aim to support media stories that inform Canadians of evidence-based health-related research issues carried out by health researchers. The IA will fund one application deemed relevant to Cognitive Impairment in Aging, Mobility in Aging, Health Services and Systems for an Aging Population or the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging. The application deadline is October 4th, 2012.
Planning Grants – Fall 2012 Priority Announcements
The Planning Grants - Aging opportunity will provide funding for applications that address research priority areas that are consistent with the mandate of the Institute, that will stimulate planning activities and/or partnership development, and exchange. The Planning Grants – Health Services and Systems for an Aging Population opportunity will provide funding for applications that will stimulate research planning activities and/or research partnership development and that are relevant to Health Services and Systems for an Aging Population. The maximum amount awarded for a single Planning Grant is $25,000 for eligible non-recurring meetings and events, for up to one year. The application deadline is October 15th, 2012.
Age+ Prize
The IA Age+ Prize recognizes excellence in research on aging carried out by emerging Canadian scholars and the resulting publications. Awards are for graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and residents from all disciplines, conducting research in aging. The award is valued at $1,000. The next application deadline is October 1st, 2012.
Partnerships for Health Systems Improvement
Partnerships for Health System Improvement (PHSI) aims to strengthen Canada's healthcare system through collaborative, applied and policy-relevant research. PHSI is Canada's premier health services and policy research competition — and with its strong emphasis on partnerships and knowledge translation it is also a major resource for managers and policy makers who want relevant research to inform their decision-making. PHSI funds teams of decision makers and researchers to conduct applied health services and policy research. PHSI projects can last up to three years and receive up to a maximum of $600,000 from CIHR over the life of the project. Additional funding from external partners is required. The application deadline is November 1st, 2012.
