Minister Aglukkaq announces new appointment to the Governing Council of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research

Ottawa (June 4, 2012) – The Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health, today announced the appointment of Dr. Terry Klassen, to the Governing Council of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) for a three-year term.
"I am delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Terry Klassen," said Minister Aglukkaq. "Dr. Klassen has been a leader in improving the emergency care of children in Canada. He will be a tremendous asset to CIHR's Governing Council where he joins an already outstanding group of Canadians."
Dr. Klassen is a pediatric emergency physician, a clinician scientist and one of Canada's top pediatric researchers. He is Director of Research for the Manitoba Institute of Child Health. At the University of Manitoba, he is Associate Dean, Academic, in the Faculty of Medicine and a Professor and Director of Research in the Department of Pediatrics and Child Health.
In 2011, Dr. Klassen and his colleagues received a CIHR-CMAJ Top Achievements in Health Research Award in recognition of their work in improving health outcomes of acutely ill and injured children visiting pediatric emergency departments across Canada.
