The Early Career Award in Cancer

The Program
This award was established to recognize the excellence of research being conducted in Canada. This award in the amount of $25,000 will be given annually to a new investigator (under five years as an independent researcher) in the field of cancer with the highest ranking (by percent (%) rank) in the Spring or Fall Open Operating Grant competition. This award is non-renewable and aims at supporting research in accordance to the CIHR Funding Policies.

Next expected funding start date: March 2014
Eligibility
- The candidate must be a grant recipient of the CIHR Open Operating Grant Program from the March 1, 2013 or September 15, 2013 competitions.
- The funded research must align with the following ICR research priorities:
- Lifestyle, environment and cancer
- Diagnosis and guided therapy: towards personalized medicine
- Cancer initiation and progression
- Survivorship
- The candidate must have chosen ICR as the primary or secondary Institute on their Open Operating Grant application.
- The candidate must have started her/his independent investigator position no more than five years from the application deadline date of his/her CIHR Open Operating Grant application.
Evaluation
The award will be given to a New Investigator that is a recipient of a grant from the Spring or Fall competitions of the CIHR Open Operating Grant Program, with the highest ranking (by percent (%) rank). CIHR's staff will provide the list of ICR grantees and will determine with Institute staff the eligibility of the recipient. In the case of a tie, the award will be split among the finalists.
