SI – Pharmacology: Call for applications

Eligibility

The Summer Institute is open to participants from all countries.

The applicants must:

  • be graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, or clinical and non-clinical scientists (including physicians, pharmacists, nurses, pharmacologists, and toxicologists) at the early faculty stage of their career
  • be actively engaged in research or enrolled in a formal research training program at the MSc, PhD, or post-doctoral level
  • have demonstrated research interest in maternal-fetal or pediatric pharmacology
  • agree to attend the full duration of the week-long Institute

How to apply

The applicants must provide the following information:

  • curriculum vitae (CIHR Common CV or NIH Biographical Sketch are acceptable)
  • one letter of recommendation from their research supervisor, faculty mentor, or Department head
  • a short cover letter (500 words or less) stating the following:
    • their general research interest
    • how the course fits with their planned career path and research
    • how their previous training relates to the Summer Institute
    • what they expect from and can contribute to the Summer Institute

Applications must be submitted electronically to IHDCYH-IDSEA@cihr-irsc.gc.ca by April 17th, 2013.

Selection

An Institute faculty committee will select up to 20 students based on:

  • research interests
  • research training and experience
  • potential for applying the knowledge and experience gained during the course

A letter of recommendation from a supervisor will help to determine the applicant's potential impact in this field of research.

The notice of decision will be sent by email to applicants by May 17th, 2013.

Travel expenses

IHDCYH will cover the following costs for selected participants from Canada and from low- or middle-income countries:

  • lowest price economy air ticket from applicant's home
  • hotel accommodation for 6 nights
  • all meals on course days

Support may be available for participants from other countries, but they are encouraged to also seek support from their institutions or employers to attend the Summer Institute.

The estimated cost is $1,100 CDN for the week-long course, in addition to travel expenses.

The participant is responsible for any additional meals, transportation, or incidental expenses.

Once successful applicants have confirmed their participation (deadline June 1st, 2013), they will receive detailed travel and lodging information from IHDCYH.
