Dr. Robert Bell was appointed as President and CEO of University Health Network (UHN) in June 2005. An internationally recognized orthopaedic surgeon, health care executive, clinician-scientist, and educator, Dr. Bell brings more than 20 years of experience in academic health care to leadership of Canada's largest research hospital.
Dr. Bell served as Chief Operating Officer of UHN's Princess Margaret Hospital, where he was responsible for leading Canada's largest comprehensive cancer centre, from 2000 to 2005. During this time, he also served as Regional Vice President and Chair of the Clinical Council of Cancer Care Ontario for two years. During his career as a clinician-scientist at the University of Toronto, Dr. Bell received more than five million dollars in peer reviewed funding and published more than 170 peer-reviewed papers.
Dr. Bell earned a Doctor of Medicine from McGill University in 1975 and a Master's of Science from the University of Toronto in 1981. He completed a Fellowship in Orthopaedic Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University in 1985. In 2005, he participated in the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. Dr. Bell is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
Co-chair – Dr. Alain Beaudet

Dr. Alain Beaudet, MD, PhD, is the President of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). As President, Dr. Beaudet acts both as Chair of the Governing Council and Chief Executive Officer of CIHR. Before joining CIHR in July 2008, Dr. Beaudet was the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Fonds de la recherche en santé du Québec (FRSQ), a position held since 2004.
Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Beaudet built a distinguished career at the world-renowned Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI). He headed the MNI's functional neuroanatomy laboratory, pursuing basic research into the action mechanisms and role of neuropeptides in the central nervous system, the control of intracellular receptor trafficking and its involvement in neuron signalling and new pain therapies. From 1985 to 1992, Dr. Beaudet was associate director (research) at the MNI. He has also taught in McGill University's Neurology-Neurosurgery and Anatomy-Cell Biology departments. Dr. Beaudet has written more than 175 original articles and some 40 monographs and book chapters.
Dr. Beaudet earned a medical degree and a PhD in neuroscience from the Université de Montréal. He did postdoctoral training at the Centre d'études nucléaires in Saclay, France and the University of Zurich's Brain Research Institute in Switzerland.
Ms. Anne Lyddiatt

Ms. Anne Lyddiatt's work experience in nursing was primarily in the areas of administration, education and community health. A diagnosis of inflammatory arthritis necessitated leaving the work force but once her disease was under control, she became active in volunteer activities.
Fifteen years ago, Ms. Lyddiatt joined a volunteer program, Patient Partners in Arthritis. In this program, she was trained in basic clinical musculoskeletal examination skills to a level enabling her to lead educational sessions with medical students, residents and health care professionals within the medical school curriculum and CME (continuing medical education) events. Her involvement in the program evolved and, for the past twelve years, Anne has been the national trainer. Twelve Canadian medical schools include the program in their curriculum, so her duties also involve maintaining standardization of the program and ensuring resources and training are up to date.
Anne has served on and continues to serve on various groups and boards to help in the development of self-management guidelines and tools for chronic disease management, at both the patient and professional level.
Mr. Richard C. Alvarez

Mr. Richard Alvarez is a leader in Canadian health care. As President and CEO of Canada Health Infoway, he has been a catalyst for accelerating the development of electronic health records in Canada. He has established strong, collaborative relationships with the federal, provincial and territorial governments and other stakeholders as the foundation for solid progress. He has articulated a broad national vision for reforming Canada's health care system through innovation and technology, and has helped to position Canada as a world leader in health care renewal.
Prior to his role at Infoway, Mr. Alvarez also played a key role in harnessing the power of information to improve health care. As former president and chief executive officer of the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), he helped CIHI evolve into a well-known and respected organization with strong ties to the research community.
Mr. Alvarez recently earned the Institute of Corporate Directors certification at the Rotman School of Management. He is a past recipient of the Who's Who in Healthcare Award and was recognized as the 2007 National Builder Inductee to the Canadian Information Productivity Awards (CIPA) Hall of Fame for the leadership he has exercised throughout his career in promoting the application of innovative technology to improve health care delivery for Canadians. Mr. Alvarez is a recently appointed member of the Ontario Health Quality Council.
Dr. Michel Bureau

Dr. Michel Bureau, M.D. (Laval University), pediatrician (McGill University), and neonatologist and pneumologist (University of Strasbourg, France) is a leader in both academic and professional circles. At the University of Sherbrooke, McGill University, and Quebec's Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS), he has served as a clinical physician, a professor, a researcher, and a leader as Department Chair, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Sherbrooke from 1988 to 1996, and, from 2003 to 2011, Assistant Deputy Minister in charge of the MSSS Health Services and University Medicine Branch.
As Assistant Deputy Minister, Dr. Bureau directed a large part of Quebec's health-care system. Assisted by nine directors reporting to him, he planned, organized, and ensured access to medical services throughout the province. He was also in charge of medical staff, pre-hospital services, support and co-ordination of university hospitals, and deployment of hospital and technological infrastructure. Dr. Bureau recently left this position to become Special Advisor to the Minister and Deputy Minister of Health, and Medical Advisor at the Quebec Institute for Excellence in Health and Social Services (INESSS).
From 1974 to 2003, Dr. Bureau was a professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Sherbrooke and then held the same position at McGill. His research focused on problems in controlling respiration and was funded by the Medical Research Council of Canada. From 1995 to 2003, he was President and CEO of the Fonds de la recherche en santé du Québec (FRSQ: Quebec fund for health research). At the federal level, Dr. Bureau was instrumental in establishing the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation. He was a member of CIHR's Governing Council from 2002 to 2008.
Ms. Krista Connell

As the Foundation's Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Krista Connell provides the leadership and professional guidance necessary for the NSHRF to attain its strategic goals. She also oversees the Foundation's tactical operation and develops policies and approaches that foster involvement and support from stakeholders.
Along with her duties as CEO, Krista sits on several boards and working groups which include: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Support for People and Patient-Oriented Research and Trials (SUPPORT); CIHR's Institute of Health Services and Policy Research's Institute Advisory Board; CIHR Knowledge Translation Advisory Committee; IWK Health Centre Research Oversight Committee and the Canadian Cochrane Network Centre Advisory Board. She also serves on several health research-related organizations external review committees.
Krista has served as peer reviewer for the Canadian Foundation for Innovation. She is also a peer reviewer for the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture's Technology 2000 Selection Committee. She is a founding member and former Co-Chair of NAPHRO (National Alliance of Provincial Health Research Organizations) and holds an Adjunct Appointment in the Faculty of Health Professions at Dalhousie University. She received a Bachelor of Science (Physiotherapy) from Dalhousie University and a Master of Health Services Administration from the University of Alberta.

Mr. Bruce Cooper is the Deputy Minister in the Department of Health and Community Services with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. Prior to his current role, Mr. Cooper held several other senior executive leadership positions in the public, health and non-profit sectors including Assistant Deputy Minister roles in the Province's Labour Relations Agency, Departments of Child, Youth and Family Services and Health and Community Services. He is also a former Executive Director with Health and Community Services – St. John's Region, and Executive Director and Registrar of the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Social Workers.
Mr. Cooper holds a Bachelor and Master's of Social Work from Memorial University of Newfoundland.
Ms. Clara Evalik

Ms. Clara Evalik is from Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, located on Victoria Island on the 69th parallel in Canada's North where she lives with her spouse, 4 daughters, 1 son, and 6 grandchildren. She is presently the Kitikmeot Regional Executive Director of Health and Social Services with the Government of Nunavut.
Clara brings with her 21 years of senior management experience in the following areas: policy development, business planning, implementation of Nunavut and community programs and services, legislation development, and human resources management. She was also appointed to sit as a Commissioner with the Nunavut Implementation Commission from 1995 to 1999. She has been elected as a board member of the Kitikmeot Inuit Association and Pauktuutit of Canada (Inuit Women's Association), and recently as the Chair for a 4-year term of the Ottawa based Nunavut Sivuniksavut Training Program, which is geared to Canada's Inuit young students.
Ms. Evalik is Inuk. She is the voice and an advocate for her fellow Inuit and community people, and the Kitikmeot Region.
Dr. Stanislav Glezer

Dr. Stanislav Glezer holds the position of Vice-President, Evidence, Value and Access and has been a member of the Sanofi Canada Executive Committee since September 2010. He received his MD degree in Moscow, Russia, and his MBA in California, USA. He also completed postgraduate training in clinical research and pharmacoeconomics at McGill University in Montreal.
At Sanofi, Dr. Glezer has held positions of increasing responsibility in the areas of medical affairs, sales and marketing. Prior to joining Sanofi in 2001, he worked in clinical research, marketing and international business development in the pharmaceutical industry in Europe and Canada. Dr. Glezer has served on several industry committees and is often invited to speak on the subjects of patient registries and health management.
Mr. Peter Goodhand

Mr. Peter Goodhand was appointed as the President and CEO of the Canadian Cancer Society in May 2009. He first joined the Canadian Cancer Society in 2004 as the chief executive officer of the Society's Ontario Division. Mr. Goodhand joined the Society as a result of his personal experience as a patient advocate and caregiver, and seeing first hand the impact of cancer on his family.
Mr. Goodhand brings with him more than 20 years of international experience in the healthcare industry. Before joining the Society, he was the President and CEO of MEDEC, a national association of Canada's medical technology industry. In the private sector, his career included roles as vice president of sales and marketing, and of global marketing with leading healthcare companies. He has been involved extensively in the management and strategic direction of commercial and public research enterprises.
Mr. Goodhand has also worked with several not-for-profit organizations to increase translational research commercialization towards the goal of enhancing the overall performance of the healthcare system. Currently, he is the Chair of the Board of Health Technology Exchange and serves on the boards of Canadian Partnership Against Cancer, the Canadian Association of Provincial Cancer Agencies, the Health Charities Coalition of Canada, and the Advisory Committee on Oncology at Princess Margaret Hospital. In 2009, he chaired the Government of Canada Expert Review Panel on Isotopes.

Dr. Paul C. Hébert is a Critical Care Physician at The Ottawa Hospital and a Senior Scientist in the Clinical Epidemiology Program at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI). He also holds the rank of Full Professor in the Department of Medicine (Critical Care) at the University of Ottawa, with cross-appointments to the Departments of Anesthesiology, Surgery as well as Epidemiology and Community Medicine.
During his 18 years on Faculty at the University of Ottawa, Dr. Hébert established the Clinical Epidemiology Program at the General Campus of The Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa Centre for Transfusion Research. In his role as Vice-Chair of Research from 2003 to 2007, he was responsible for the overall strategic direction of research for the University's Department of Medicine. From 2007 to 2011, Dr. Hébert served as Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ). Concurrently, from 2008 to 2010, he acted as strategic lead and first Executive Director of the Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR) at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).
Dr. Hébert has served as Principal and/or Co-Investigator of 48 externally funded, peer-reviewed research projects (with a combined grant value in excess of $33 million) and has close to 250 peer-reviewed scientific publications to his name. Based on his many accomplishments, Dr. Hébert was elected to Fellowship in the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences in June 2010.
Mr. Simon Kennedy

Mr. Simon Kennedy was appointed Senior Associate Deputy Minister of Industry Canada in September 2010. Prior to joining Industry Canada, he was the Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet (Plans and Consultation) at the Privy Council Office where he provided assistance to the Prime Minister and Cabinet in defining the government's objectives and priorities; formulating policy on economic and fiscal matters, including the Budget; and ensuring effective governmental communications and consultation.
Mr. Kennedy's public sector experience includes serving as the Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet (Operations) at the PCO, with responsibility for providing policy advice and ensuring interdepartmental coordination on a wide range of domestic policy and program issues, and the management of five Cabinet committees. Prior to his appointment as head of Operations, he was Assistant Secretary to the Cabinet (Economic and Regional Development Policy), also at the PCO.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Kennedy held senior positions at Agriculture and Agri‑Food Canada. He also worked for Transport Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard. In 2008, he was named one of Canada's Top 40 Under 40. Mr. Kennedy holds a bachelor's degree in public relations from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, and a master's degree in communications management from Syracuse University's Newhouse School in New York. He is also a graduate of INSEAD's Advanced Management Programme.
Michelle Kovacevic

Ms. Michelle Kovacevic was appointed Associate Assistant Deputy Minister of the Strategic Policy Branch in October 2011, after acting in the position since January 2011. Prior to this, she was the Director General of the Strategic Policy, Planning and Analysis Directorate in the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch. She is also proud to be the current Health Canada Champion of the Q Network and the Young Professional’s Network.
Ms. Kovacevic has held several posts in Health Canada, including Acting Assistant Deputy Minister of the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch, Director of Policy of the Non-Insured Health Benefits Division, and Executive Director for the Deputy Minister. As Director General of Mental Health at Correctional Service Canada, she was responsible for implementing a mental health services system for federal offenders. Before working for the Government of Canada, she worked in the Ontario Ministry of Health on the reform of hospital and health care services in North-western Ontario and in the Ottawa area.
She holds an Honours degree in psychology and a Master’s degree in clinical social work and practiced in the division of psychiatry at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. In her spare time, Michelle plays and coaches competitive girls soccer.

Dr. Kumar is a pharmacy graduate with a PhD in pharmaceutical sciences (from the University of Bath, UK involving research into controlled delivery of drugs such as insulin. He has more than 20 years of global drug development experience having worked for start-up and multinational pharmaceutical companies in the United Kingdom, France and North America.
Dr. Jacques Magnan

Dr. Jacques Magnan was born and raised in Montréal, and pursued his training in Sherbrooke (Québec) in Chemistry at the undergraduate level, then in Pharmacology where he obtained a PhD in 1979. He did post-graduate work as a Fellow of the Medical Research Council of Canada and of the Fonds de la recherche en santé du Québec (FRSQ) in Scotland, Toronto and Montréal before taking up a Faculty position in the Department of Pharmacology at the Université de Montréal in 1984.
In 1990, Dr. Magnan moved to Ottawa where he worked as a Scientific Officer for the Medical Research Council of Canada, managing the peer-review process for the Groups and Program grants. He joined the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research in 1994 as Director, Grants and Awards, and was then promoted to the position of Vice President, Programs. Dr. Magnan subsequently became President and CEO of the organization until its transformation into Alberta Innovates Health Solutions in 2010. where he now serves as Chief Executive Officer.
He currently sits on the boards of the Alberta Centre for Child, Family and Community Research and the Institute of Health Economics in Alberta, and is the Co-Chair of the National Alliance of Provincial Health Research Organizations (NAPHRO).
Dr. Barry A. McLellan

Dr. Barry McLellan is the President and CEO of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto. In this role, he provides leadership for one of Canada's largest academic health sciences centres. Each year, the hospital conducts extensive research, provides educational opportunities for 2,000 students and cares for one million patients. The hospital provides a broad range of tertiary regional programs and services including specialties in cancer, cardiovascular disease, neurological disorders, high-risk obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopaedic and arthritic conditions, trauma and critical care, and community care. In addition, Sunnybrook is Canada's largest facility caring for the country's war veterans.
Prior to his position as President and CEO at Sunnybrook, Dr. McLellan was the Chief Coroner for Ontario. He graduated from the University of Toronto with a Medical Doctorate in 1981 and subsequently trained in emergency medicine, receiving a Fellowship in 1985 (Specialist in Emergency Medicine). He was the Director of the Trauma Program and Vice President of Specialty Services at Sunnybrook. He also served as Director of the hospital's Emergency Department, Base Hospital Program (paramedic program) and Trauma Research.
Dr. McLellan is a Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto. He has published more than 60 scientific papers, written a textbook on trauma care and lectured extensively, including international presentations in the fields of trauma care and forensic investigation.
Dr. W. Robert McMaster

Dr. Robert McMaster received a Bachelor and Master of Science from the University of British Columbia UBC) that was followed by a D.Phil. from the University of Oxford. His research interests are in the areas of molecular immunology, parasitology and transplant immunology. He is co-lead on a multi-million initiative "Biomarkers in Transplantation" with funding from Genome Canada/Genome BC and the Prevention of Organ Failure (PROOF) Centre of Excellence.
He is actively involved with national and international granting agencies including the World Health Organization, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research where he serves as the Scientific Officer for the Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Peer Review Grant Committee, and the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research, having served as Chair of the Research Advisory Council.
Dr. McMaster is a Professor in the Department of Medical Genetics and was Head of the Department, from 2000 to 2010. He also served as Director of the Immunity and Infection Research Centre at the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (VCHRI), and Director of Transplant Immunology for British Columbia Transplant. He recently was appointed as Executive Director, VCHRI, and Associate Dean of Research, Faculty of Medicine, UBC.
Mr. Dwight Nelson

Mr. Dwight Nelson is President and CEO of Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region, a post held since 2001. Mr. Nelson previously served as Chief Executive Officer of the Headwaters Health Authority in Alberta for 7 years. His health career also includes terms as Vice President of the Alberta Children's Hospital and as Assistant Executive Director at the Stony Plain Municipal Hospital.
Mr. Nelson is a Certified Health Executive (CHE) and has served on the Board of the Canadian College of Health Service Executives (CCHSE) for both Alberta and Saskatchewan. He is currently on the boards of Accreditation Canada and HIROC (Healthcare Insurance Reciprocal of Canada). He also chaired the Council of CEOs in Alberta for 2 years and was on the Board of the Association of Canadian Academic Healthcare Organizations. Strongly committed to his community, Mr. Nelson's local involvements have included the United Way of Regina Campaign Cabinet, the board of the Regina Symphony Orchestra and the board of the University of Regina.
Most recently, Mr. Nelson received the 2008 Regent's Award for Senior Health Leadership in Canada from the American College of Health Care Executives. In 2006, he was named Canada's top health care collaborator by Canadian Healthcare Manager Magazine. He is a graduate of the University of Calgary (Bachelor of Arts) who also holds the professional designation of Chartered Accountant.
Mr. Christian Paire

Director General of the Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM) since the fall of 2009, Mr. Christian Paire has over 35 years of experience in the health field.
Previously, he served as Director General of the Rouen University Hospital Centre in France, where one of his major tasks was to merge two of the five hospitals there. He also directed several university hospital centres within the Assistance Publique Hôpitaux de Paris, which encompasses over 40 hospitals and employs over 90,000 people. As the Human Resources Director of that institution, he was a key player in the creation and establishment of the Georges Pompidou Hospital, which unites all the services of three major hospitals in a single location.
Mr. Paire advised ministers Simone Veil and Philippe Douste-Blazy on matters of the health system. He initiated the integration of numerous cultural projects in French hospitals. In addition, he made a significant contribution to international relations with China, Brazil, Eastern Europe and Africa. With his extensive knowledge of Québec, he actively participated in missions of cooperation between Québec's and France's hospital centres.
Dr. Brian Postl

Dr. Brian Postl's five-year term as Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manitoba began in July 2010. He is a graduate of the University of Manitoba. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1976 and the Royal College Fellowship in Community Medicine and in Pediatrics in 1981 and 1982, respectively. He was the founding president and CEO of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA), a position he held for ten years.
Dr. Postl has served as head of Pediatrics and Child Health and of Community Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba. He has also served as director of the J.A. Hildes Northern Medical Unit and Division of Community and Northern Medicine, and as director of the Faculty of Medicine's community medical residency program.
His research, published works and professional involvement focus on Aboriginal child health, circumpolar health and human resource planning. His contributions in these areas, combined with his experience as a visiting pediatrician to communities in northern Manitoba and Nunavut, contributed to him earning the Canadian Association of Pediatric Health Centre's Child Health Award of Distinction in 2006 and the Inter-Provincial Association on Native Employment's Champion of Aboriginal Employment award in 2007. Dr. Postl serves on a number of committees and boards of provincial and national associations, foundations, institutes and other organizations.

Dr. Norman Rosenblum is a clinician scientist trained in Paediatric Nephrology and experimental nephrology. Since joining the Hospital for Sick Children and University of Toronto in 1993, Norman has established a research program in kidney development within the Program in Developmental and Stem Cell Biology at SickKids and the University of Toronto Collaborative Program in Developmental Biology.
His research is focused on genetic and molecular mechanisms that control normal and disrupted mammalian renal development and clinical outcomes in affected humans. Support for this work is provided via grants from the Kidney Foundation of Canada, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Canada Research Chairs program.
Dr. Rosenblum has a major interest in the education and career development of clinician scientists at an individual and programmatic level. As Associate Dean, Physician Scientist Training in the Faculty of Medicine, Norman directs the MD-PhD program, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Clinician Investigator Program and serves as Associate Director (Education) of the McLaughlin Centre for Molecular Medicine. Dr. Rosenblum played a leading role in the founding of the Canadian Child Health Clinician Scientist Program (CCHCSP), an interdisciplinary training program aimed at generating the next generation of Clinician-Scientists in the field of child health in Canada, and has acted as Principal Investigator of the CCHCSP since its inception.

Dr. Bonnie Stevens (RN, PhD) is a Professor in the Lawrence S Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing and Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and the Signy Hildur Eaton Chair in Paediatric Nursing Research, Associate Chief Nursing Research and a Senior Scientist in the Research Institute at the Hospital for Sick Children. She is also the Director of the University of Toronto Centre for the Study of Pain, the Co-Director of the Pain Centre at the Hospital for Sick Children, and a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
Dr. Stevens held a Career Scientist Award from the Ontario Ministry of Health and the Premier's Research Excellence Award from the Ontario Ministry of Energy, Science and Technology. She has received the Mary Ellen Jeans Lectureship Award from the Canadian Pain Society, the Mayday Pain & Society Fellowship, and the American Pain Society's Jeffrey Lawson Award for Advocacy in Children's Pain Relief. Her research is focused on the assessment and management of pain in infants and children, the evaluation of pediatric health services delivery models, and the effectiveness of knowledge translation strategies. She is currently the PI of the CIHR Team in Children's Pain.
Dr. Stevens has over 200 published papers and abstracts and is the co-editor of the 2007 book "Pain in Neonates and Infants" (Elsevier) and the upcoming "Oxford Textbook of Pain in Children".
Dr. Jeffrey Turnbull

Dr. Jeffrey Turnbull received his Doctorate in Medicine at Queen's University and later achieved specialty certification in Internal Medicine through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 1982. He also holds a BSc (University of Toronto) and a Master's Degree in Education (University of Western Ontario).
Dr. Turnbull has served as Vice Dean of Medical Education at the University of Ottawa from 1996 to 2001, President of the Medical Council of Canada from 1998 to 2001, and President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario in 2006-2007. He has pursued an interest in poverty and its effect on health nationally and internationally. Dr. Turnbull is one of the founders and currently Medical Director of the Inner City Health Project for the homeless in Ottawa. As well, he has been involved in education and health services initiatives to enhance community and institutional capacity and sustainable development in Bangladesh, Africa and the Balkans. He is the recipient of several national and international grants and awards, including the Order of Canada.
In addition to being a specialist in Internal Medicine, Dr. Turnbull was appointed Chair of the Department of Medicine in 2001, a position he held until 2008 when he became Chief of Staff at The Ottawa Hospital. Furthermore, he served as President of the Canadian Medical Association in 2010-2011. He remains committed as a medical educator with special interests in poverty and health inequity and associated health policy.

As Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Jane E. Aubin oversees scientific affairs at CIHR and provides expert advice on matters relevant to science and technology, potential opportunities and emerging orientations and trends in the national and international health research community. As Vice-President, Research and Knowledge Translation Portfolio, she is also responsible for all aspects of adjudication of grants and awards at CIHR, and finally, as a member of the Science Council, she participates in the development, implementation and reporting on CIHR's research and knowledge translation strategy.
Dr. Aubin is currently a member of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, where she is Professor of Molecular Genetics and the Director of the Bone Program in the Centre for Modeling Human Disease. She has been Scientific Director and CEO of the Canadian Arthritis Network of Centres of Excellence and, for the past four years, Scientific Director of CIHR Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis (IMHA). During her time as Scientific Director of IMHA, Dr. Aubin has shown outstanding leadership qualities and an unwavering commitment to working with others to improve the health and quality of life of patients with arthritis, musculoskeletal, oral and skin conditions.
Dr. Aubin received a B.Sc. (Hons) Chemistry and Mathematics and the Gold Medal in Chemistry at Queen's University in Kingston. She then completed her Ph.D. in Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto. She later did her postdoctoral training in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Goettingen, Germany.
