Minister Aglukkaq announces two new appointments to the Governing Council of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research

OTTAWA (June 27, 2011) - The Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health, today announced the appointment of Ms. Maura Davies and Mr. Martin LeBlanc to the Governing Council of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) for a three-year term.

"CIHR's Governing Council will benefit from Ms. Davies' significant experience in health care as a clinical dietitian, educator and senior executive, as well as Mr. LeBlanc's expertise in biotechnology and experience in the industrial and public sectors. said Minister Aglukkaq. "Both of these individuals will make an outstanding contribution to the CIHR Governing Council."

Ms. Davies is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Saskatoon Health Region. She has over 30 years experience in health care as a clinical dietitian, educator and senior executive.

Ms Davies has Bachelor degrees in science and education and a Master's degree in health services administration. She holds a part-time faculty appointment in the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology at the University of Saskatchewan.

Mr. Leblanc is the President and CEO of Caprion Proteomics in Montreal. Mr. Leblanc also sits on the board of Victhom Human Bioncs Inc., Montreal InVivo and the Atlantic Cancer Research Institute. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Moncton and completed an Master of Arts degree in Economics and Politics at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar.
