Secondary Analysis of Databases
Secondary analysis grants are intended to provide an opportunity for expert analysis of existing data sets and by doing so, improve the evidence for decision-making and create new knowledge in aging, maternal and child population health and health care, neurosciences, mental health and addiction, Aboriginal health and health services and policy research. The maximum amount per grant is $50,000 per year for up to 2 years. The CIHR Institute of Aging will provide funding for applications that are determined to be relevant to the five priority topics for research on aging and health. Knowledge Synthesis Grant: Age-supportive Built Environment (Priority Announcement)
The Knowledge Synthesis Grant for Age-supportive Built Environments funding opportunity is being offered to support knowledge translation and dissemination of research on the effects of overall or specific aspects of the built environment on the well-being of older persons. The maximum amount awarded for a single synthesis grant is $100,000 per annum for up to one year. The maximum amount awarded for a single scoping review is $50,000 per annum for up to one year. The application deadline is April 1st, 2011.

Team Grant: China-Canada: Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders
The Team Grant: China-Canada: Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders funding opportunity is being offered to support joint team grants in the field of Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders (ARD). Within CIHR, the joint program will be part of the International Collaborative Research Strategy for Alzheimer's Disease (ICRSAD). The scientific agenda for ICRSAD focuses on the early events in ARD including risk factor identification, early diagnosis, early intervention, and prevention. For Canadian researchers, the maximum amount per project is CAD $250,000 per year for up to four years. For Chinese researchers, the amount available per project is 3 million RMB for up to four years. The application deadline is May 6th, 2011.
International Network of Centres of Excellence in Neurodegeneration (COEN) – Catalyst Grant Initiative
This is an initiative between funding partners in six countries - Canada, Germany, UK, Belgium Flanders, Italy and Ireland - with the objective to build productive links between research groups within recognised centres of excellence in neurodegeneration. For this call, each agency is contributing towards a CAN $7.2 million fund (including $1.5 million for Canadian team members) for collaborative pilot projects that will serve to underpin future studies in the neurodegenerative diseases field in the areas of: 1) Prodromal state; 2) Aetiology of chronic versus acute degeneration; 3) Changes in disease over the life course; and 4) Common mechanisms between neurodegenerative diseases. This will address the need to adopt common methodologies, share research materials and resources, and enhance data sharing. Teams will combine the research strengths across at least two partner countries. The Call for Applications will be led by the Medical Research Council (MRC UK) and will detail the scientific focus identified through three priority setting workshops held in November/December 2010. The deadline for applications is June 9th , 2011.
China-Canada Joint Health Research Initiative
The China-Canada Joint Health Research Initiative is jointly managed and funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). Its aim is to promote the development of Canadian-Chinese scientific co-operation between universities, hospitals, research institutes or affiliated research organizations in Canada and China through the support of collaborative research grants. For Canadian researchers, the maximum amount awarded for a single grant is up to C $75,000 per year for up to three years. For Chinese researchers, the maximum amount awarded for a single grant is the equivalent of up to 333,333 RMB per year for up to three years. The application deadline is March 1st, 2011.
CIHR Partnership Award
The CIHR Partnership Award recognizes partnerships between organizations that exemplify excellence by bringing health research communities together to create innovative approaches to research, develop research agendas that are responsive to the health needs of Canadians and/or accelerate the translation of knowledge for the benefit of Canadians. The emphasis of the award is on innovative cross-sectoral partnerships between organizations that promote excellence. Recipient(s) will receive a $25,000 award in the form of a one-year research grant, to be used by the awardee(s) to advance the research or knowledge translation activities of the partnership. The nomination deadline is April 1st, 2011.
