2013-2014 ICRH Travel Awards: Skills Development
The Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health is one of thirteen institutes, each with a specific focus, that together make up the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). CIHR promotes the creation of new knowledge and advances its translation into improved health for Canadians, more effective health products and services, and a strengthened health care system.
Travel Awards Program
ICRH is launching a Travel competition for Doctoral and Postdoctoral fellows to provide funding to attend a meeting/conference/workshop that will enable the acquisition of specialized skills or research experience related to the Institute's mandate. The maximum amount for a single award is $1,000 to cover travel costs and accommodation expenses. Up to 3 awards will be available per competition (two for Doctoral and one for Postdoctoral fellows).

Eligibility
The applicant's supervisor (PhD students) and applicant (Postdoctoral Fellow) must be affiliated with ICRH (i.e., ICRH is the CIHR Institute mentioned by the supervisor/trainee when applying to CIHR open competitions).
The research skills and activities must be related to the Institute's mandate.
These awards are available to Canadians studying within Canada and abroad and to Canadians and non-Canadians affiliated with a Canadian Institution at the time of the application deadline.
Evaluation
Applications for ICRH Skills Development Travel Awards will be assessed by Institute senior staff, based on strength of the application relative to the following criteria:
- Potential relevance of the applicant's research area to ICRH mandate
- Potential relevance of the proposed research activity to ICRH mandate
- Impact of the research activity on the applicant's career and research
Allowable Costs
The maximum amount for a skills development travel award will be $1,000. Expenses eligible for support include:
- Travel costs
- Accommodation expenses
- Per diem for meals
How to Apply
To be eligible for funding, an application must include the following documents:
- Please submit your application using the ICS Application Form [ PDF (242 KB) | Help ]. Before completing the form, be sure to follow the instructions specific to the Skills Development Travel Awards program.
- A copy of your Curriculum Vitae in the Common CV.
- A letter of support from the research supervisor.
- A description of the proposed meeting, explaining how this activity will impact on the applicant's career (1 page maximum).
