On behalf of CIHR's Governing Council, it is my pleasure to help lead this year's 2010 Canadian Health Research Awards.

Each of the individuals being honoured this year has carved out a path of excellence in the Canadian health research community. They illustrate the achievements possible when you give talented people the resources they need and place them in innovative and supportive research environments.

CIHR is delighted to, once again, join forces with the very prestigious Prix Galien Canada. For the past 15 years, the Prix Galien Canada has recognized achievements in Canadian biopharmaceutical research. Our coming together truly makes the Canadian Health Research Awards the ultimate recognition of excellence in health research in this country.

I congratulate this year's award winners and thank them for their dedication to their work and to the improved health of Canadians. They are not only models of research excellence, but also inspirational examples of the importance of putting research results to work. I look forward to seeing where their research takes us in the future.
