Advising Applicants about which committee reviewed their application

(2010-03-17) The Operating Grant Program Funding Opportunity states:

"Applicants have the opportunity, within the ResearchNet application process, to indicate their preference of peer review committee (see description of mandates). CIHR will consult with committee Chairs and Scientific Officers, as required, in assigning applications to specific committees. Note that CIHR will make the final decision on which peer review committee will review each application."

The assignment process in the "Understand Peer Review" section of the CIHR website refers to the same principles. The guiding principle for CIHR is to ensure the best match between the application and the expertise required for its review. This is done in close consultation with the Chairs of committees. The final decision must rest with CIHR since the organization has ultimate responsibility for the adjudication process that guides allocation of public funds and has no vested interest other than ensuring the highest quality of peer review.

Effective immediately, CIHR will no longer be e-mailing applicants to advise them which committee is reviewing their application until the decision stage of the process. They will be informed at the end of the process of all information pertinent to the evaluation of their application, including the committee name.
