Biography
Walter Preugschas is the owner and operator of Bloombury Farms north of Edmonton and a shareholder and President of Peak Swine Genetics.
Mr. Preugschas earned a B.Sc. in Agriculture with majors in Animal Science and Rural Sociology. After graduating in 1969, he worked as a Social Worker with Alberta Social Services in native communities in northern Alberta, as a Counsellor with Agriculture Canada and as a District Agriculturist with Alberta Agriculture.
Mr. Preugschas has been involved with spinal cord injury following his daughter's motor vehicle accident in 1997. He was active in locating appropriate therapies, travelled to Switzerland to work with a physiotherapist and helped his daughter get established with Project Walk in California.
Mr. Preugschas has also been actively involved with community, charitable and business organizations, including serving on various advisory boards representing the Alberta Swine Breeders Association (ASBA), the Canadian Lacombe Swine Breeders' Association, the Alberta Swine Genetics Corporation, the Farm Debt Review Board, the French Immersion Program, the School Parent Advisory Councils.
His family participated and continues to participate in various exchange programs and homestay situations with young people from various parts of Canada, Mexico, Germany, Japan, China, France, Brazil, Holland, Switzerland.
Mr. Preugschas traveled extensively throughout Europe and Latin America during the late sixties and early seventies. He is trilingual, speaking English, German and Spanish.
