The objectives of the funding opportunity "Meetings, Planning and Dissemination Grant: International (Fall 2009 Competition) were:

• To enable and stimulate leading edge research collaboration to move forward to the next point of collaboration and to set the stage for actual international research;
• To provide a chance for a novel, high risk project with the potential to change the direction of thought in an area or maintain Canada's international leadership position in a niche area;
• To provide critical funding to bring health research partners together otherwise not possible in a timely fashion so Canada can be part of an important international endeavour;
• To strengthen the health research relationship of foreign health researcher(s) and Canadian health researcher(s).

A total of 42 applications were received of which 32 were approved for funding.
