Effective April 1, 2009, Dr. Anthony Phillips has been appointed Scientific Director of CIHR's Institute of Neurosciences, Mental Health and Addiction (INMHA), champion for the Regenerative Medicine and Nanomedicine Initiative.
New funding opportunities
RMNI Emerging Team Grant
The RMNI Team grant program supports innovative multi-disciplinary regenerative medicine and nanomedicine research approaches to health problems. The maximum amount awarded for a single grant is $500,000 per annum for up to 5 years. Please refer to the list of Eligible Research Areas for more information on RMNI's priorities.

Knowledge Synthesis Grant
RMNI is partnering on this funding opportunity lead by CIHR's Knowledge Synthesis and Exchange Branch. You may view the list of RMNI Eligible Research Areas for more information on RMNI's priorities. The maximum amount awarded for a synthesis is $100,000 per annum for up to 1 year, and for scoping reviews is $50,000 per annum for up to 1 year.

Research/Operation Grants: Alternative Radiopharmaceuticals for Medical Imaging
CIHR and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Council of Canada (NSERC) are providing $6 million in research funding to find alternatives to the medical isotopes that are affected by the current shutdown at the Chalk River nuclear reactor. This funding opportunity is solely to provide the needed short-term impetus to speed the development of replacements for the PET and SPECT 99mTc – labeled, reactor-produced radiopharmaceuticals.

Upcoming workshops
Advanced Bioimaging Technologies Conference
September 15 – 18, 2009, Banff, Alberta, Canada
The latest technical advances in biomedical imaging including molecular imaging, and nanotechnology will be presented. The recent advances in whole body MRI, multi-transmit technology and gradient-free MRI will be presented amongst other topics.
