Joanna Briggs Collaboration – Funding Decisions Notification (July 2009 Competition: 200907JBI)
The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) is pleased to announce the results of Joanna Briggs Collaboration competition.
Funding Opportunity Summary
The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Knowledge Synthesis and Exchange Branch, solicited an application from the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI), Queen's Joanna Briggs Collaboration (QJBC), the only Canadian JBI Collaborating Centre. QJBC at Queen's University is well positioned to develop a national model for evidence synthesis and use. JBI and QJBC's infrastructure includes both Cochrane and JBI methods, expertise in mixed-methods syntheses and experience with engaging end-users in evidence utilization. The QJBC is a unique Canadian initiative. With its clinical partners, it provides leadership and support in evidence-based practice.
The objectives of the funding opportunity "Joanna Briggs Collaboration" were to:
Building Infrastructure:
- Develop a Pan-Canadian QJBC focused on patient safety;
- Develop a patient safety resource engine;
- Serve a facilitating function in providing expertise on the production and use of evidence for patient safety, and lead development of infrastructure for the collaboration;
- Work with faculty to integrate evidence-based practice into the nursing curricula.
Evidence Production on Patient Safety:
- Conduct systematic reviews using rigorous, transparent and replicable processes, involving stakeholders where appropriate;
- Disseminate summaries of best practice recommendations in the form of Best Practice Information Sheets;
- Design and lead implementation studies;
- Assess and adapt guidelines to local contexts.
Establishing Networks on Patient Safety:
- Work collaboratively with partners in establishing an academic-policy partnership and develop a knowledge exchange network of stakeholders, i.e. a 'community of practice' on patient safety;
- Form a consortium/virtual network of national stakeholders in patient safety, in addition to CPSI and Accreditation Council (e.g. Canadian Hospital, Home Care and Long Term Care Associations, Canadian Nurses Association).
