Canadian Virtual Health Library – Funding Decisions Notification (August 2009 Competition: 200908CVL)

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) is pleased to announce the results of Canadian Virtual Health Library competition.

Funding Opportunity Summary

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Knowledge Synthesis and Exchange Branch, solicited an application from the Canadian Virtual Health Library (CVHL) to establish a formal network of health libraries to collaborate in the delivery of services to knowledge users (e.g., health care practitioners, health professionals, policy-makers, and volunteer health organizations) and to realize efficiencies through resource sharing. The CVHL will contribute to the effective and efficient operation of Canada's health system by ensuring equitable access to health information and by optimizing the use of resources through coordination of existing services across the country.

The objectives of the funding opportunity "Canadian Virtual Health Library " were to:

Support infrastructure:

• Implement a web portal that will provide equitable and expanded access to free full-text high-quality health information for health care practitioners and professionals across Canada
• Harness collective buying power to maximize the scope and impact of electronic health information resources
• Consolidate disparate initiatives and eliminate infrastructure redundancies

Promote evidence-informed practice, policy and programs:

• Build upon and leverage the knowledge resources available through Canadian health libraries and librarians
• Offer expert librarian-led knowledge brokering services

This grant will address the CIHR Roadmap Strategic Direction #3, ''Accelerate the Capture of Health and Economic Benefits of Health Research'', specifically the goal of enhancing the application of research and its evaluation.
