CIHR announces the launch of the revised and restructured 2009-2010 CIHR Grants and Awards Guide
(2009-12-17)
2009-2010 CIHR Grants and Awards Guide
Structural Changes
- In order to facilitate the harmonization of CIHR and Agency (CIHR, NSERC & SSHRC) policies, subsections on same, or very similar, topics (i.e., general individual eligibility requirements, application limits, paid parental leave, etc.) have been grouped together under a single subsection. There are no longer sections (i.e., entire chapters) solely dedicated to grant programs, salary award programs, training award programs, and partnered grant and award programs.
- Process-related information (i.e., CIHR's requirements for requesting a relocation, etc.) was removed from the CIHR Grants and Awards Guide and inserted into checklists on the CIHR web page titled "Index of Post-Administration Instruction Checklists". Links to checklists are provided in relevant sections of the CIHR Grants and Awards Guide.
- Definitions previously found in the Grants and Awards Guide were moved to the CIHR web page titled "Glossary of Funding Related Terms". Links to definitions are provided in relevant sections of the CIHR Grants and Awards Guide.
- The guide has been significantly restructured and many changes have been made to the policies. The reader is strongly encouraged to read the entire document to familiarize themselves with the revised guide.
Policy Changes
- Revised individual eligibility definitions and requirements
Individual eligibility definitions and requirements have been revised. The Grants and Awards Guide contains the revised, general individual eligibility requirements of "Nominated Principal Applicant", "Principal Applicant", "Co-Applicant" and "Collaborator". Specific eligibility requirements, if any, will be in the "eligibility" section of the funding opportunity description. - New signatory requirements
Signatory requirements have changed and the rules for submitting the signatures differ depending on whether the application is submitted electronically through ResearchNet or not. - CIHR will no longer remind Nominated Principal Applicants to submit their renewal applications.
When CIHR funding is renewable, CIHR will no longer remind Nominated Principal Applicants to submit their renewal applications within the timeline specified on the Authorization for Funding. Just a reminder that if a Nominated Principal Applicant submits a late renewal application, it will be considered a new application. For further information on CIHR's renewal policy consult Section 1-C "Renewal Applications" of the Grants and Awards Guide. - Nominated Principal Applicants may be required to file an end of grant report within 18 months of the End of the Grant.
As a condition of funding, a Nominated Principal Applicant may be required to file an end of grant report within 18 months of the End of the Grant. The Nominated Principal Applicant will be advised of any specific grants subject to this reporting requirement.
