Catalyst Grant: Pandemic Preparedness - Funding Decisions Notification (October 2008 Competition - 200810PAP)

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) is pleased to announce the results of the Catalyst Grant: Pandemic Preparedness competition.

Funding Opportunity Summary

The Pandemic Preparedness Strategic Research Initiative launched funding opportunities to support three phases of pandemic preparedness: pre-pandemic research, outbreak research and knowledge translation of research findings. The purpose of this funding opportunity is to provide seed money for researchers working in the first two phases where applications were requested but not received.

Within the framework of the overall objectives of the CIHR Catalyst Grant Program, the specific objectives of the Catalyst Grant: Pandemic Preparedness funding opportunity are:

  • To contribute to Canadian pandemic preparedness by supporting catalyst grants in the areas of influenza and the current pandemic threat.
  • To provide seed money to support health research activities which represent a first step towards the pursuit of more comprehensive funding opportunities.
  • Stimulate research in strategic priority areas were there is low capacity.

A total of 7 applications were received of which 3 were approved for funding.
