July 2008 Competition Decisions

CIHR's Research and Knowledge Translation Committee (RKTC) met on June 25th and 26th to review the results of the March 2008 health research competitions. Their decision to fund the grants and awards listed below reflect the recommendations made by the Sub-committee on Programs and Peer Review (SPPR).

Several reports on these competitions are available.

Lists of successful applications:

Each list provides the name of the principal grantee and co-applicant(s), title, average annual operating budget approved, term of the grant, peer review committee to which it was assigned (grants only) and whether any condition has been placed on approval of the grant ("Pending"). The total number of applications received, the total number of applications funded and the total dollar investment include any grants/awards that require Stem Cell Oversight Committee review; however, these applications will only be posted on the list of successful applications following further consideration by Governing Council. If an application falls into this category, then the Nominated Principal Investigator is notified in the Letter of Decision.

Designation as "pending" signifies that one or more of the following situations exists:

  1. degree of overlap of the proposal with existing or pending funding from another source has not been determined, or
  2. status of faculty appointment is not known, or
  3. there is some other issue that has to be resolved before funding can be approved.

By signing applications, applicants, administrators and partners (where applicable) agree that any research carried out with funds from CIHR will respect all of CIHR's requirements for the ethical conduct of research as expressed in policy documents.

In general, the policy statements place primary responsibility on the researchers, and require the institutions in which the research is to be conducted to have in place the monitoring and review committees defined in the guidelines. CIHR reserves the right to deny or withdraw funding if the researcher or the institution does not comply with the guidelines.

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) wishes to take this opportunity to register its appreciation for the diligence and dedication of thousands of scientists who work as volunteers within the peer review system to ensure maintenance of its high standards for scientific excellence and fairness. CIHR also wishes to convey its congratulations to those applicants who have been awarded funding in these competitions, and to express its respect for the many applicants who, while not successful this time, represent critical components of the health research community in Canada.

Please select the program name to view the list of successful applications - reports are in Adobe Acrobat PDF format (instructions for downloading the software are found at the bottom of the page). Decisions not found here today will be posted as they become available. These lists are for information only. The Authorization for Funding will constitute the official record.
