Results of the “Chair: Transplantation (Wyeth Pharmaceuticals Partnered)” Competition

CIHR and Wyeth is pleased to announce the results of the "Chair: Transplantation (Wyeth Pharmaceuticals Partnered)" competition.

Wyeth, in partnership with the CIHR/Rx&D Collaborative Research Program, has created two (2) professorial clinical research Chairs in Transplantation in Canada for an initial three (3) years, plus an additional two (2) years conditional upon funding availability and acceptable progress report (2008 - 2013). The Chairs will be dedicated to Clinical Research in Transplantation, specifically involving translational or clinical research with the aim of broadening scientific knowledge to address long term outcomes in recipients of solid organ transplants in Canada.

The specific objectives of the funding opportunity are to:

  • champion transplantation as a field of medical research;
  • facilitate or lead multidisciplinary approaches to study critical issues in long term outcomes of solid organ transplantation; and
  • stimulate research and develop standards for clinical excellence.

A total of 9 applications were submitted. Applications were reviewed by the Wyeth Research Chairs Peer Review Committee, resulting in the approval of two (2) applications. (Success rate of 22%)
