Next Steps - Pain Topic

  • Package KT messages relating to pain for the parent organizations of KETF members
  • Pick one other major "target audience" for pain KT message(s), such as:
    • Health care providers (i.e., through the Canadian Medical Association, Canadian Dental Association, Canadian Rheumatology Association, Canadian Physiotherapy Association or Canadian Arthritis Network)
  • Assign a KETF working group to package info aimed at these groups
  • Develop IMHA partnerships with these associations
  • Develop a Broader Pain KT strategy for IMHA and Test it (that is, conduct research on KT methods and effectiveness)

The Next Step for KETF?

  • Add another topic such as Physical Activity, Mobility and Health - possibly including the following activities:
  • Data scan could be done - IMHA and CIHR
  • Researchers could be identified
  • Workshop in March 2006, possibly with KETF component, with focus on muscle/rehabilitation
  • Develop CIHR Research Project (Community Alliance in Health Research - CAHR) in physical activity as it relates to pain management

Other Possible Steps relating to KT:

  • CIHR Trainees (Research Students) will be asked to report back to their training centres on KETF:
    • On "KT definitions" and processes
    • On Pain discussions and their relevance to Canadians
  • "KT Training Module" Development by IMHA Training Centres:
    • Students could lead and report back to KETF at next meeting
  • IMHA will Launch CAHR in Pain, and consider another in Physical Activity barriers and benefits in June 2006
  • IMHA will require all research teams applying for IMHA funding to include a KT plan in their grant application (target June 2006)
