Research Personnel Awards - Fall 2005 Competitions

March 2006 Competition Decisions

CIHR Governing Council met on March 22 and 23, 2006, to review the results of the Fall 2005 Research Personnel Awards competitions. The awards listed below reflect the recommendations made by the Standing Committee for Oversight of Grants and Awards Competitions (SCOGAC).

Doctoral Research Awards: CIHR received a total of 799 Doctoral Research Award applications, 185 were recommended for funding for an overall success rate of 23.2%. This includes awards funded through the CIHR Doctoral Research Award, Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGS) Doctoral Award, and Clinical Research Initiative (CRI) Doctoral Research Award programs.

Fellowships: CIHR received a total of 481 Fellowship applications, 93 were recommended for funding for an overall success rate of 19.3%. This includes awards funded through the CIHR Fellowship, Industry-partnered Fellowship, and Clinical Research Initiative (CRI) Fellowship programs.

New Investigators: CIHR received a total of 313 New Investigator applications, 79 were recommended for funding for an overall success rate of 25.2%. This includes awards funded through the CIHR New Investigator, Industry-partnered New Investigator and Clinical Research Initiative (CRI) New Investigator programs.

Clinician Scientists: CIHR received a total of 20 Clinician Scientist applications (10 Phase One - New, 4 Phase One - Renewal and 6 Phase Two - New), 15 were recommended for funding for an overall success rate of 75%. All awards are funded through the Clinical Research Initiative (CRI) Clinician Scientist program.

Research Chairs: CIHR received 1 Industry-partnered Research Chair application, which was recommended for funding for an overall success rate of 100%.

For those candidates who requested consideration for funding through one or more of CIHR Institute Priority Announcements or CIHR Strategic Competitions, results may not yet be available and will be posted and forwarded under separate cover as soon as they become available.
