IHDCYH Strategic research priorities
In its 2006-2010 strategic plan, IHDCYH identified 11 research priorities. With the development of CIHR's new Roadmap (strategic plan) for 2009-2013, the Institute has recategorized its priorities to highlight their alignment with those of CIHR Roadmap.
Research priorities:
- Reproduction, prenatal development, and maternal health
- Development and mental health of children and youth
- Chronic diseases
- Intentional and unintentional injury
Cross-cutting themes (studied in the context of the mandate of the Institute):
- Social environment
- Physical environment
- Health services
- Vulnerable populations
Note: Priority chronic diseases include obesity, asthma, disability, and developmental origins of adult chronic disease.
IHDCYH is also committed to build capacity in health services, knowledge translation and ethics research in reproductive and child health, and to increase the number of clinician-scientists in areas covered by the Institute's mandate.
