How to Apply to Become an IAB Member

CIHR is renewing the membership of its thirteen Institute Advisory Boards (IABs). A turnover of about 30 of the more than 180 members is expected. Information on the selection criteria and composition of the IABs is available under IAB Selection Criteria.

Institute Advisory Board Member Application and Guidelines

CIHR accepts IAB applications on a year-round basis.

Online applications for the 10th annual cycle of IAB renewal for all thirteen Institute Advisory Boards (IABs) can be submitted from January 31, 2012 to April 15, 2012.

Application forms received after April 15, 2012 will be stored in the database and considered for the next renewal cycle. Users may also submit or modify their IAB application form at any time during the year.

How to Apply Electronically

The online application procedure involves the following steps:

Step 1) Get ready

  1. ResearchNet account. If you don't already have an account, access ResearchNet and use the 'Register' link to request a new account.
  2. CIHR PIN. If you don't already have a CIHR PIN, connect to your ResearchNet account and use the 'Register for a CIHR PIN' link to request a new PIN.
  3. Common CV account. If you don't already have an account, access Common CV and use the 'click here to register' link to request a new account.
  4. Common CV PIN Validation. If you didn't previously validate your CIHR PIN in CCV, connect to your Common CV account and use the 'Confirm my agency PINs' link.

Step 2) Create a Common CV

  1. Connect to your Common CV account.
  2. Complete, validate and submit a CIHR Knowledge User or Full CV.

Step 3) Submit your application through ResearchNet

  1. Connect to your ResearchNet account.
  2. Create a Volunteer application or update an existing one.
  3. Attach your updated Common CV.
  4. Submit your application.
